The College of Physicians talked about the need to have more humanized-delivery practices

Both the College of Physicians and the Nurses Association warn about the need for more humanized-delivery practices without these endangering people’s lives, as happened with a woman in Coronado last January.

The woman allegedly died due to a hemorrhage and now a man surnamed Gutierrez is under investigation. Apparently, the suspect has a master’s degree in obstetric nursing, but he is neither graduated nor a board member of the Nurses Association.

There may be some complications that, if there are not specialists, doctors or nurses who do know about the issue, can endanger the mother and baby’s lives,

said Alejandro Madrigal, prosecutor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

This institution will investigate if these problems are common in the country, since this is the first case denounced in the last 3 years.

According to Ligia Ramírez, President of the Costa Rican Nurses Association, after this woman’s death, more than a month ago, President of the Republic Luis Guillermo Solís proposed to create a “National Policy of Humanized Attention to Childbirth”.

The proposal was transferred to the Ministry of Health. However, it is still there. It is already in the National Commission on Maternal and Child Mortality of the Ministry, waiting to be studied.
