The food industry listed the obstacles it will face in 2017. According to the industry, this was a good year, but it was not enough.
According to the Chamber, the increase in smuggling and theft of products during transportation continues affecting several business activities, especially those related to alcoholic beverages.
In addition, certain business practices are greatly affecting some sectors, which is why the food industry requested the intervention of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce (MEIC).
They also rated as “shameful” Costa Rica’s position in the ranking of the World Economic Forum on regulatory fees, since it is ranked 126 among 140 countries. They also drew the attention to the World Bank’s Doing Business 2016 indicator, which places the country among the worst places in the region in terms of the number of procedures and days needed to start a business.
Finally, food manufacturers said that the Pacific Alliance should not be a priority for the country.
