Due to the satisfaction generated by lowering the percentage of poverty for the first time in seven years, the government is stating that tax package must be passed in order to continue improving and strengthening those numbers.
President Luis Guillermo Solís has been emphatic on the need to approve the projects that are listed on taxes, especially those that are related to incomes and value-added tax.
Several members of the Executive declared that by getting new and fresh resources, poverty could further lower the current 20.5%, as stated in the latest National Household Survey released by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).
In addition, Ana Helena Chacón, vice president and coordinator of the Bridge-to-Development Strategy, thinks that to have greater resources and investment could have a higher and positive impact on more families who live in poverty and extreme poverty.
However, authorities are worried because they don’t know what would happen if the resources are not passed. Regarding the reductions in Parliament, Chacón declared that they could affect poor people, even though legislators affirmed that they were not applied on social programs.
