So far, the National Insurance Institute (INS) has reported 176 claims from insured citizens whose assets were affected by the passage of Hurricane Otto in communities located in the northern and southern parts of the country.
Most reported damages are in homes, businesses and vehicles.
It is estimated that the number of insured clients in the affected areas is around 5,337.
Due to the emergency, the INS activated since November 25th the protocol for handling the claims. Currently, there is a mobile unit located in Bagaces.
In addition, engineers are working in Liberia, San Carlos, Limón, Nicoya and Ciudad Neily in order to reinforce the attention in the zones.
The INS is waiting for a massive increase in the filing of claims.
Here are the steps to make a claim covered by INS policies:
-Fill out the form and submit it to the headquarters or insurance agents with photographs showing the damage.
-Wait for the expertise that will determine the need or not to send a surveyor to assess the damages.
-If going to the INS offices is difficult, the claim can be submitted through the web site.
