Cristel Gómez Espinoza, better known as “The Queen of the South”, must spend three months in pretrial arrest as a suspect in the alleged crimes of international drug trafficking and money laundering.
The Prosecutor’s Office against Drug Trafficking managed to obtain the precautionary measure on Wednesday.
The “Queen of the South” was arrested on Tuesday in Palmar Norte, in the South Zone at about 10:00 am. There was an international arrest warrant issued by Interpol against her.
The woman was in a mall when the officers intercepted her. According to the OIJ report, officers in conjunction with the Public Force carried out an operation in the area to find people with a warrant of arrest, when confidential information was received that the woman was in that mall.
The 24-year-old woman was transferred on Wednesday morning to San José with full police custody. Later, she was taken to the Calderón Guardia hospital where she was treated in the Emergency department.
Gómez Espinoza is credited with being the leader of an organization that provided cocaine and weapons to “El Gringo’s” gang and others, from the border of Paso Canoas, border with Panama.
