Reading 3 hours and a half every week could prolong your life. This was proved by a recent study conducted at Yale University in the United States.
The researchers concluded that those who have a reading habit live 17% longer than those who do not open a book. People can live near 2 more years.
The article, published in Social Sciencia & Medicine magazine, also concluded that educated women with higher purchasing power are the ones who read books.
To reach these results, scientists tested 3,635 people for 12 years.
That’s not all! Reading can bring more benefits for your life:
A 2009 study showed that stress levels of a group of volunteers reduced by 68% after reading for 6 minutes.
In the era of mobile technology perhaps the last thing you see before going to bed is your cellphone or tablet. The light emitted by these devices makes it difficult to get to sleep. So, give your eyes a rest and read a book: it would be a good way to fall into the arms of Morpheus.
Focus on the story you are reading, it will help you to have a better performance in the remaining tasks of the day.
Finally, a book will greatly help you to remember things. A book of García Márquez, with countless characters, will surely help you memorize names, deeds and actions.
If you have not started with this beneficial habit, remember that this weekend the Costa Rica, International Book Fair begins: it is the largest fair of the region.
