The US calls for UN vote on Venezuela

The United States will vote on the UN Security Council on a draft resolution calling for “free, fair and credible” presidential elections in Venezuela, as well as free access for humanitarian aid to country, according to diplomats.

The draft resolution also denounces the violence and excessive use of force by the Venezuelan security forces against peaceful and unarmed demonstrators over the weekend at the borders with Brazil and Colombia.

However, the text would be vetoed by Russia, which supports the government of Nicolás Maduro.
