Everyone eagerly awaits the solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st.
Although it will be partial in Costa Rica (the Moon will only cover 30% of the Sun), many already bought their special lenses. But the truth is that the forecast from the National Meteorological Institute (IMN) indicates that most of the national territory will be cloudy between noon and 2:00 p.m., the period when the natural phenomenon will occur.
The eclipse will begin at 12:15 p.m. and extends until 2:20 p.m. At 1:17 p.m the moon will conceal most of the sun from Costa Rica’s point of view.
According to the IMN these will be the conditions in that period, in the different regions:
• Central Valley: Partly cloudy. Chance of isolated rain at around 2:00 p.m.
• North Pacific Coast: Partly cloudy skies. Isolated showers in the peninsula.
• Central Pacific: Cloudy with rain and thunderstorm. Probability of rains between 50% and 80%.
• South Pacific: Cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. Probability of rains between 50% and 75%.
• North Caribbean: Partly cloudy, possible isolated rain in the mountains.
• South Caribbean: Partial to total cloudiness.
• North Zone: Partial to total cloudiness.
