A few hours ago, the Ministry of Health reported that to July 25th there were three confirmed cases of hepatitis A and eight cases with pending confirmation, in the sector of Guadalupe de Goicoechea in San José.
On Tuesday, there was a report of an apparent outbreak in the sector. Initially, it was indicated that there were 15 people infected; however, after the field work and verification, the health authorities confirmed that there are only three victims.
Daniel Salas, head of Health Surveillance, said yesterday that there has been an increase in cases in the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM).
Hepatitis A is a contagious disease that is transmitted when a healthy person eats and drinks a food contaminated by feces of a person infected with the virus. Symptoms of hepatitis A include fever, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, intense itching, dark urine, and yellowing of the skin and the eyes.
