With slogans such as no to trawling, avoiding disposable plastic and promoting environmental awareness, a group of Costa Ricans took the streets of the capital to raise their message.
The first national march for the environment began after 10 am from the statue of León Cortés at the entrance of Paseo Colón, towards the Plaza de la Democracia. The protesters marched with different requests, but all united under the same purpose, to promote a green culture in the country that favors the environment.
Although we are already living the consequences, there is still time to change… We ask the different government entities to act with force, placing environmental issues as a national priority,”
said the organization Preserve Planet.
The official legislator Paola Vega was also present at the march.
Today I accompanied the National March for the Environment. We march with slogans such as no to trawling, support for our plastics project, no to the exploitation of oil and gas in Costa Rica and for climate justice. We made ourselves heard asking for strong actions. I hope that some other legislators who attended the march will now be committed to changing legislative actions such as promoting drag or oil exploitation. It’s time for the planet!” said Vega.
