Toucan Fest will beautify Juan Santamaría Airport

Juan Santamaría International Airport (AIJS) is preparing to receive the Toucan Fest, an exhibition of toucan sculptures that will be placed throughout the international terminal. Therefore, the company Aeris, administrator of the airport, is summoning national artists, either emerging or consolidated, in order to capture their talent in the works and then be exposed to the nearly five million passengers a year who transit by the main airport in Costa Rica.

The Toucan Fest is part of the campaign that seeks to give a sense of meaning to the place and that in its fourth edition opens the doors for the national artistic sector.

The last three hours of a passenger’s stay in Costa Rica are at the airport, and as promoters of the image of the country, we discovered that we can take advantage of that time to create more experiences for those who visit us. The best way to do it is through the exhibition of national art and its manifestations of our culture, biodiversity, and all those reasons that appeal to tourists and make them visit us again,”

added Lucía Gutiérrez, Commercial Manager of the company.

The public call for national artists is open from June 25th until July 15th. Those interested should request the registration form and send their proposals to the email address toucanfest@doubledigit.com

The toucan sculptures are made of fiberglass and will have a base height of two meters by one meter wide.

A multidisciplinary jury established by Aeris will evaluate the representation of the sense of place, use of tropical colors, typical elements of Costa Rica, originality of the design, and other elements that might make a passenger return to our country.

At the end, the eight best proposals chosen by Aeris will receive the materials kit, as well as the space for the work. Once informed of their choice, they must inform the organizer of the details, such as special colors that may be required for the implementation of the sculptures that will be exhibited.
