A device with a pen-like appearance intends to make life easier for patients with diabetes.
The apparatus of Toujeo brand serves to apply the insulin that patients require. In Costa Rica, diabetes affects 13% of the population; however, that percentage increases by 26% in the more-than-50-year-old population, as explained by doctor José Guillermo Jiménez, from the National Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes.
The device has a very small needle, which favors people who fear stitches. In addition, it can be supplied at any time of the day because it is easy to use.
Toujeo is already available in Costa Rica, which is the second country in the region that has it.
The device aims to treat people suffering from Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 and 2 in patients older than 18 years old. It is distributed in drug stores and it costs 15,000 colones.
