Traffic accidents are the first cause of violent deaths in Costa Rica

The Red Cross reported a total of 1,360 violent deaths this year, 66 more people than last year.

In a press release, the institution said these deaths correspond to incidents such as assaults with weapons, water accidents, abuses, traumatic emergencies, collisions, run overs, falls, poisonings, burns, emergency areas and others.

The highest number of deaths occurred in traffic accidents. A total of 437 deaths were recorded in this category. The second cause of violent death in the country (323) is assaults with weapons, both with firearms and knives.

Red Cross insists on the importance of people taking more prevention measures when they go on vacation and be vigilant to possible risks. Prevention is undoubtedly the best opportunity not to become a victim to an accident,”

said the Red Cross in a press release.

In addition to holiday operations, the Red Cross will be present at massive year-end events such as the National Tope, Carnival and bull events at Festejos de Zapote.
