Canto de Aves Trail. Catalina Quesada and Ronald Jiménez
Poás Volcano National Park is still paying the price for the effects of the strong wind gusts that hit the area weeks ago due to the cold front that reached the country.
Catalina Quesada, park ranger, explained that they received support from the Red Cross, the Fire Brigade and the Association of Volunteers for Protected Areas of Costa Rica (ASVO), to enable two of the three trails used by visitors. However, Canto de Aves trail is not open to the public, since it is necessary to cut some trees that are dangerous for visitors.
Quesada commented that the inspection and inventory of the trees that must be removed of the place was conducted on Monday and that they are now waiting for the resolution, to begin with the process of cleaning the trail.
The trees fell as a result of the winds, so the inspection verified that they were not damaging the ecosystem.
Quesada added that the visits to the park already go smoothly, but prompted people to respect the closure of Canto de Aves trail to avoid any inconvenience.
Two weeks ago the park had to close its doors due to the danger that the wind represented in the area.
