Transit will monitor those who go to Palmares

Starting next Thursday, January 12th, the traffic police will monitor those who go and participate in the celebrations of Palmares.

El Tope, Carnival and the two Sundays with concerts will be the days with stricter control. Priorities will be alcohol, driving speed and bad parking.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT) reported that starting on Wednesday they will install the checkpoint near the toll Naranjo, which will remain there until January 22nd.

In 2016, the MOPT seized 15 vehicles. The main cause for confiscation was driving under the influence.

In 2016 we sent almost 2,000 drivers to the Public Ministry for this behavior, so we will continue along this line this year,”

said Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police.

The Traffic Police also called for people to avoid overloading the vehicles with too many people.

The Transit Act also establishes penalties for the driver who holds objects that can make driving hard, such as cellphones, soft drinks or pets.

In addition, special attention will be given to illegal people transport services, so Calderón recommends having permits up to date in the Public Transport Council (CTP).
