Trap cameras stolen from national park

Crime does not forgive, not even when it comes to protecting Costa Rican biodiversity.

This time La Cangreja National Park, located in Puriscal was affected.

According to the park’s administration, they suffered the theft of several ‘trap’ cameras, used to monitor mammals in protected areas.

With a post on Facebook, the national park reported that the equipment was stolen in the sector Llano Hermoso-Puriscal-Biological Corridor Paso Las Lapas, on a private estate.

Our goal with these devices is to monitor mammals and their mobility within ecosystems,”

said the national park on Wednesday.

It is not the first time this happens, it is the third robbery of cameras that the park suffers in the last months.

The national park La Cangreja comprises a territory of 2,750 hectares with 44 species of endemic plants. In addition, it has more than 300 species of birds such as limpets, toucans, turkeys, among others.

The Park does not receive many visitors. The most visited months are from January to April and it receives less visits from August to November,”

explained the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC).
