Treasury processed 2,300 complaints over vehicle ownership tax

The Ministry of Finance processed 2,300 complaints over the tax value calculated for vehicles, which affected the collection of the vehicle ownership tax (or marchamo 2017).

According to Marieta Montero, director of Administrative and Tax Assessments, all claims were processed and resolved before December 30th.

This year it was very easy. We use the rule that if 5 vehicles or more, with the same characteristics, presented a claim, the value for all of them would be corrected. It greatly simplified the job,”

said Montero.

In recent years, the tax value assigned to the vehicle has been the subject of complaints by vehicle owners, believing that the amount allocated does not always correspond to the characteristics of the vehicle or the market price.

The vehicle ownership tax is the main component of the marchamo, accounting for about 66% of the total cost.
