President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is “100% ready” to close the border between Mexico and the United States, if the authorities of the neighboring country fail to stop the flow of migrants.
If they [Mexico] do not do it or if we do not reach an agreement with the Congress, the border will be closed, that’s 100% sure,”
the US president told reporters.
Trump said that maybe some sections could be closed and not the entire border.
Sure, this would have a negative impact on the economy (…) but safety is more important,”
explained the president.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sander warned that these are not threats.
The Secretary of National Security Kirstjen Nielsen cut a trip to Europe to attend a meeting scheduled on Tuesday morning about the crisis on the border.
An official with the Department of Homeland Security who asked not to be identified told reporters that a decision on the issue of the border had not yet been made.
