Trump to hit the fight against climate change

US President Donald Trump is set to announce a revised emission standards for vehicles imposed on manufacturers by his predecessor, Barack Obama.

On a visit to Detroit, a northern US city with many vehicle manufacturers, Trump will announce that the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) targets for 2022-2025 will be suspended and reviewed.

According to an official from the government who requested anonymity, they are going to withdraw strict greenhouse gas emission reductions imposed by the Obama administration.

The White House says the rules were hurriedly imposed by Obama, without taking into account the realities of the market, the constraints of various players in the industry and market expectations.

In a letter to EPA director Scott Pruitt, manufacturers are urging the new president to lift restrictions imposed by Obama, saying they could affect employment.

Trump will meet with vehicle industry leaders and union representatives in Detroit.
