During the first 11 days of November the eruptive activity of Turrialba volcano was characterized by passive but continuous emanations of ash and some short periods of non-activity. From the 12th and until the 15th of November the emanations diminished and the volcano now shows low discharges of material.
The weather conditions were very variable in the last two weeks, so the ash dispersed in several directions: northwest, west, southwest and south.
There were also periods when the wind velocity was minimal and the ash was concentrated at the top of the mountain and affected the seismic and visual instrumentation (surveillance cameras) of the National Seismological Network (UCR-ICE).
According to the National Seismological Network, the current condition of Turrialba is totally normal and typical of a volcano that went from a resting condition to an active condition.
The current seismicity shows the possibility of an increase in eruptive activity at very similar levels to those observed in October and early November,”
reported the institution.
