Family friend said she and the mother of the children were studying at the time of the shooting
A hail of bullets from automatic weapons fire in the Leo XIII neighborhood of Tibas has sent two children, aged 9 and 15 to the hospital. The nine year boy took three rounds in the neck, back and leg while the fifteen year old girl took 5 rounds to the back, legs and arms.
Police attribute the fire fight to a clash between local drug gangs, and found casings for AK-47 machine guns and smaller arms. The Red Cross evacuated the children by ambulance to the National Children’s Hospital (HNN). Doctors say the fact the boy lived is a miracle because a round completely perforated his neck.
A police operation to locate the suspects in the shooting was not successful.
