Two Filipino women were arrested in Nicoya by request of OIJ

On Thursday afternoon, the Public Force arrested two Filipino women by request of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). The apprehensions were made in downtown Nicoya, after a first approach by the police.

In the first instance, one of the foreigners had immigration documents in order and the other had an expired permit granted by the Immigration Office upon entering the country for 90 days.

After carrying out the police and immigration consultations, they were released, since they presented current identity documents or migratory permits for religious activities,”

said the Public Force. But hours later the OIJ asked the Ministry of Security to arrest them again.

The Public Force makes these interventions after neighbors of various communities and businesses claim that these women ask for money in the name of a foundation for child welfare,”

said the authorities.

In addition, on Wednesday two presumed Philippine missionaries were reported to the OIJ of San Ramón for the apparent attempted kidnap of a two-year-old boy in Palmares de Alajuela.

An English teacher was used as an interpreter to talk with the Asians. With this are 3 reports that point to four Filipino women: two in Nicoya, one in Pocosol, and one in Osa.
