Two officers who work in the Delegación de Cuatro Cruces in Miramar, Puntarenas, were arrested on Sunday afternoon because they apparently tried to extort money from French tourists. This information was corroborated by Mauricio Guevara, Deputy Regional Director of the Public Force in the province.
According to Guevara, the French arrived at the delegation where the officers worked and filed the complaint, that’s how they found out about the case. Apparently, officials Delgado and Cubero would have requested ₡ 100 thousand from tourists.
Preliminary versions point out that the complainants exceeded the speed limit allowed on the road and the police stopped them, and then asked for the money in exchange for not proceeding with sanctions.
