A total of seven men were arrested suspected of forming an organization to traffic and market cocaine and marijuana from Colombia and Jamaica.
Two police officers named Rodríguez López and Elizondo Martínez are among the arrested. The organization is being investigated since mid-2016 by the Drug Control Police.
According to the Office of the Deputy Prosecutor Against Organized Crime (FACDO), raids were carried out in downtown Limón, Valle de La Estrella, Cariari de Pococí, San Pablo de Heredia and Calle Blancos de Goicoechea.
More than ¢20 million and $2,000 in cash were confiscated, in addition to two kilos of compressed marijuana, firearms, a taxi-type vehicle, a pick up truck, life jackets and an outboard motor.
Apparently, the group used speedboats to bring marijuana shipments from Jamaica. In addition, they imported cocaine into metal structures attached to commercial ships, known as “ticks”, from Colombia.
A man named Levi and another named Brown, alias “Chinomanzá”, are listed as the leaders of the organization.
Brown’s son also participated, apparently in charge of coordinating drug landings. The Public Ministry added that another man named Rivas would have been in charge of logistics, landing, custody and marketing operations.
Additionally, a man named Blackwood Alpízar and another named García Zeledón were also linked to the crimes and arrested.
