Tropical Waves No. 40 and No. 41 will arrive in the country on Thursday and during the weekend, respectively, mainly through the Central and South Pacific, and the Central Valley. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the National Emergency Commission.
The president of the National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Care (CNE), Alexander Solís, made a call for prevention in the face of the arrival of these two tropical waves and especially alerted communities affected by the impact of heavy rains last week.
According to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), both phenomena are typical of the rainy season of October.
The CNE leader insisted on the importance of staying alert, as there are still saturated soils and places like Guanacaste that are flooded. The districts of Cóbano, Lepanto, and Paquera, from the central canton of Puntarenas, maintain a red alert. The cantons of La Cruz, Santa Cruz, Nicoya, and Nandayure in Guanacaste, and the districts of Barranca, El Roble, and Pitahaya in Puntarenas continue on yellow alert.
So far, only one shelter has been closed and at present 512 people remain in shelters.
The Ministry of Transport has already begun assessing damages on national routes, and the Costa Rican Electricity Institute is working on the rehabilitation of electrical and telecommunications services. In addition, the AyA maintains support to the Asadas to determine the effects on the distribution of drinking water.
