Uber will now feature a button that directly calls 9-1-1 in case of any emergency. This was announced by the company that revealed new security features available for Costa Rica:
• Security Center: Includes the most important information that users may require in terms of security, such as 24/7 support, data verification, rating and anonymous feedback to collaborating partners, trip sharing, and GPS monitoring of each trip.
• Trusted contacts: The function allows users to easily share the requested trips through the app and set up their preferences. Users can establish up to five trusted contacts with whom to share their trips regularly.
• Call 911: The button gives users the option to connect directly to 9-1-1 through the application in case of emergency. By pressing the button the application shows the current location and travel information so that the user can share it quickly with the local authorities.
Uber said that it will monitor users who use this function and will take preventive measures. The entity said it has trained nearly one hundred 9-1-1 officers to help solve situations that arise during trips.
