UCCAEP recommends asking RECOPE’s president to resign

The Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (UCCAEP), recommended to request the resignation of Alejandro Muñoz, president of the Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (RECOPE) after the vote of censure issued by the productive union.

According to union, the decision followed the improvisation of implementing the mandatory blending program of gasoline with ethanol.

They are also emphatic in that for the business sector the ideal conditions for this project were not met, since according to them,

the project would not get to lower the oil bill of the country, or avoid the exit of foreign currency, it doesn’t reduce the carbon footprint and it doesn’t stimulate the national economy.”

It was obvious they subjected the country to total uncertainty, the arguments and studies were reduced and they made a decision without respecting consumers or consulting experts from the Costa Rican private sector,”

said Álvaro Sáenz, vice-president of Uccaep, in a press release.

Additionally, they extend the responsibility to the Minister of the Environment, as a member of the Board of Directors of RECOPE, for unilaterally endorsing “a terrible implementation and a worse defense before the citizens.”

According to Saenz, the productive sector is in favor of practices and programs to reduce environmental pollution while managing efficiently, not with hasty decisions.
