The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of Private Enterprises (UCCAEP), took stock of 2016 and shared its expectations for 2017.
Franco Arturo Pacheco, president of the UCCAEP, stressed that Luis Guillermo Solís’ government has been marked for a series of “inconsistencies” and even though it wants to solve fiscal deficit, there is not an agreement or a project. He added that in order to have an agreement, expenses must first be discussed.
The spokesman stressed that it is necessary to discuss issues such as the bill on public employment.
Rodolfo Coto, vice president of the Union, commented on the issues of competitiveness, where the project on the living wage is included.
The Union of Chambers had filed a constitutional complaint against the Living Wage Act, as it aims to increase minimum salary by 35% for workers in the private sector.
This would be devastating for the small producers (…) small businesses, the business sector could not handle that,
stated Coto.
Among the successes of Solís’ government, the UCCAEP highlights the management it had regarding hurricane Otto. Another positive point was its success to reduce poverty.
