If you know about a child who has been sent home after suffering from cancer, this information could help in a new project.
The specialty of Onco-pediatrics of the University of Costa Rica is looking for these histories to improve the existent databases and publish a book of testimonies on the treatment for the disease.
The requirement is that the children are cured and have been treated at the Oncology Service of the National Children’s Hospital (HNN).
Yéssica Gamboa, coordinator of the specialty, indicated that it is essential to have up-to-date statistics on survival, as well knowing the current status of patients who are cured.
In addition, the goal is for testimonials to help other families during the treatment process.
The digital book that will contain the testimonies aims to highlight these patients’ ability to overcome dramatic circumstances of life.
In Costa Rica, survival in children is 82% for leukemia and 70% for solid tumors.
