Nearly three weeks of strike have not yielded the expected results for the unions, but rather the opposite. The President of the Congress, Carolina Hidalgo, announce the admissibility report of motions of reiteration for the tax reform. Therefore, the unions seek to intensify the fight through a “plan B”.
Wálter Quesada, representative of the National Association of Public and Private Employees (ANEP) said they would announce the plan next week. The unionist said that this plan will depend on the negotiations and possible agreements that arise from the meeting with the government to end this Friday.
However, on Saturday they will slow traffic down on route 32, although Quesada called it a “caravan”. He assured that they will go to Limón from Barrio Tournón near La República to give support to the strikers who are in that province, for which they calculate that 300 vehicles will be part of the event.
People are already tired, they are asking us to take other measures. We wanted to take the peaceful measures, but unfortunately there are people who have told us that they will propose their own initiatives to do other things and we don’t know what they are,”
said Quesada.
Quesada also indicated that it is possible to intensify blockades, demonstrations, as well as visits on the outskirts of the houses of legislators. The latter has happened with the Christian Socialist Aracelly Salas, the liberationist Jorge Luis Fonseca, as well as Hidalgo.
The unionist also said that the discussion of the motions of reiteration in Plenary is an act of provocation.
