The strike planned by the unions for next Monday will not end that day. The idea is to extend it for at least a week.
This was stated by Albino Vargas, secretary of the National Association of Public Employees (ANEP), who said that the strike scheduled in several parts of the country and that includes only the first week, since the strike will be indefinite and a very general schedule was made for the first week, as agreed by the strike command on September 3rd.
In hospitals, the movement will start at dawn on Monday, and from 10:00 am a group of protesters will leave La Merced Park towards the Legislative Assembly. In addition, there will be blockades near the statue of León Cortés, route 27, and General Cañas.
Vargas affirmed that one of the objectives is to achieve the official opening of a national dialogue table on the tax reform, with the participation of businessmen, unions, cooperatives, political forces represented in the government, the Catholic Church, universities and others, with the aim of withdrawing the fiscal project from Congress.
The unions say that the tax plan being discussed through a fast track will weaken the working class of the country and will have negative consequences in the provision of services. They added that until this moment the dialogue with the Executive Power is in neutral.
The tax plan promoted by the government includes sensitive measures, such as a 2% tax on basic food products, private education, and health services.
