The United States authorities denied permission to the Dresden Symphony Orchestra to perform a protest concert on US soil that was intended to be played on both sides of the Mexican border on June 3rd.
Now, instead, the free concert will be held on June 3rd, exclusively on the Mexican side,”
said the orchestra in a statement released on Monday.
The event called “Demolish this Wall” is a protest against US President Donald Trump’s intention to build a wall on the Mexican border.
It originally involved an orchestra concert across the border with American and Mexican artists. Now, the concert will be held exclusively in Parque del Mar, in the Mexican city of Tijuana.
Our event is possible and necessary in different places around the world. The list of walls is unfortunately very long,”
said Markus Rindt, conductor of the orchestra.
He added that the US authorities denied permission by alleging security and protection reasons for birds.
American musicians and artists are invited to participate this June 3rd with their own initiatives along the border with Mexico,”
added International Amnesty.
The group led by Rindt, founded in 1997, usually links its projects with socio-political events.
