On Monday, a US court blocked the policy of the government of President Donald Trump to deport Mexican asylum seekers while their cases are analyzed.
The decision, which takes effect on Friday throughout the country and can be appealed, ends, at least temporarily, the “Migrant Protection Protocols” designed for non-Mexican asylum seekers entering through that border with the United States.
The policy, dubbed “Stay in Mexico”, sought to stop the large flows of immigrants to the borders, at the highest levels in a decade.
US laws limit the time children can be in immigration jails, so many asylum-seeking families remain free in US soil waiting for their case to be analyzed, a process that can take years.
