Vehicles with plates ending in 1 and 2 may enter the central town of San José on Monday, because the restriction does not apply due to Mother’s Day celebration.
In addition to significantly reducing the number of vehicles entering the capital, being a holiday, the authorities of the Transit Police estimate that the restriction would hinder family reunions on this day.
These dates are the most important of the year, people visit nursing homes, cemeteries, hospitals, mothers, mothers-in-law, sisters… We want to facilitate the meeting of families,”
said Mario Calderón, director of the entity.
Calderón explained that the officials must address the return of a definitely large group of people to San José, since the holiday is on a Monday, many people chose to spend this time with their families in the beach or mountains over the weekend and then return home on Monday.
The plate number restriction normally applies in San José, taking into account the route of Circunvalación from Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., starting with the plates ending in 1 to 2 on Monday and ending with the plates whose last digit is 9 or zero.
The fine for disrespecting this measure is 22,188 colones.
