Desobediencia Creativa exhibition pays tribute to the long career of Juan Luis Rodríguez Sibaja, a creator of the highest level and a cornerstone in the history of art in this country. It will be presented in Olga Espinach Fernández Artist-House School (ECA) until October 29th.
The exhibition consists of 22 creations under printmaking techniques, painting, sculpture, assemblage and poetry, along with an audiovisual material. 9 pieces are from the collection of the Costa Rican Art Museum (MAC) and some others haven’t been published.
Rodriguez started his artistic studies at the House of Artists in 1950. After 10 years, the French government awarded scholarships to study metal engraving at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. After that, he continued his training at the Academy of Free Art in The Hague, Netherlands.
In 1972, when he returned to Costa Rica, he opened his Engraving Workshops at the University of Costa Rica and the National University of Costa Rica.
According to the ECA, Rodríguez has done a lot of contributions on techniques and languages such as metal engraving, mural works, watercolor, drawing, installation, sculpture, photography, assemblage, collage and some experimental works.
The ECA is located in Guadalupe de Goicoechea. It is open from Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and on Saturdays from 8 am to 4 pm. It is for free.
