On August 24th, more than 200 people participated in the 53rd volunteer day for the rearborization project Una Nueva Sabana.
Participants planted 84 new trees in the southwest sector of the metropolitan park, of various native species such as: Cocobolo, Targuá, Papaturro, Guanacaste, Güitite, among others.
Volunteering has been a key factor in the success of the Una Nueva Sabana project. Since the project began to arise, we knew that citizen, business and institutional participation was essential to achieve the goals set. The response has been extraordinary. We’re in the final stage and we are very pleased to have reached such high levels of participation, with an average of 80 volunteers for each workday,”
said Rocío Zamora of Scotiabank, one of the organizers of the event in conjunction with Icoder.
After Saturday’s day, only 77 trees remain to reach the goal of 5,000 new individuals planted in the park. The intervention in the Park started 10 years ago and to date 4,923 trees have been planted, 236 native species in 53 volunteer days.
