Wages increased 1.8% from November to May this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).
In addition, there is a wage gap between what large and medium-size companies pay. Large companies pay 2% more than medium-size enterprises and 7% more than small businesses.
The manager of PwC, Victoria Scott, explained that last year there was a negative inflation (-0.81%). Therefore, 22% of companies did not increase wages.
In contrast, in the first months of this year, the salary of non – executive positions rose nearly 2%.
According to the president of the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica (ICRC), Enrique Egloff, this increase in wages –especially in the service industry- is explained by the sector’s dynamism. However,
it’s closely related to the level of sophistication, the degree of knowledge and academic training required and the policies of each companies.”
