Costa Rican physicists created a Web site that, among other things, has an ash meter that uses a supercomputer to forecast the places where volcanic debris will fall.
José Brenes, a physicist from the University of Costa Rica, guarantees that the meter works with the wind direction, obtained through satellites of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States.
The forecast is made with FALL3D program through the geographical coordinates of Costa Rica, which can superimpose the ash fall animation with a map showing the most populated areas, electric power lines, main rivers, airports and main roads, as well as water sources.
