Costa Rica is on alert for the potential impact of Hurracane Otto.

Authorities expect the North Caribbean to be the most affected area. This climatic phenomenon is heading northwest, towards Calero island.

On November 22nd, the government declared red alert in the Caribbean coast, while the rest of the country is on yellow alert.

In addition, it was announced that 4,000 people will be immediately evacuated.

According to the latest report from the National Hurricane Center, located in the United States, Otto is expected to hit Central America on November 24th. Winds are likely to reach speeds of up to 118 kilometers per hour.

The areas at risk are located from Calero Island and Las Barras Parismina, Colorado and Tortuguero. 500-millimeter rainfalls could take place at these sites. They can bring floods and landslides as consequences.

Ivan Brenes, president of the National Emergency Commission (CNE) declared that despite the forecasts, the country is prepared to face the emergency.
