The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) issued a series of tips for the correct use of security cameras in homes or businesses.
Important factors to take into account when installing surveillance equipment are:
-Selection of provider: he/she must be willing to do pre-testing proofs, demonstrations and maintenance of the equipment.
-Selection of the equipment: Suppliers must recommend the necessary equipment to install. That is to say, not any camera is good to record indoors and outdoors.
-Distance: measure distance and height at which the equipment will be installed.
-Monitor backlights: sometimes equipment is installed without taking into account lighting and space. That makes the quality of the shots difficult.
-Computer configuration: check the type of images, format and size of the material that will be stored in the recorder.
-Maintenance: constantly review the work of the cameras. In addition, periodically check the recorders for the correct storage of the material.
-Time and date of the recorder: it must be adjusted correctly. This is essential to prove any crimes.
-Plan of action in case of emergencies: it is important to have passwords at hand, to know how to extract and safeguard information.
-Avoid making “viral” videos: avoid posting security videos on social networks before the OIJ has them to resolve the cases.
