Where is organized crime? OIJ map reveals complex cases

The country looks like a leopard skin and every spot represents a complex cell of organized crime: drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking and corruption.

The image was presented by the director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), Walter Espinoza , before the legislators of the Security and Drug Trafficking Commission in the Legislative Assembly.

There are mini cartels, which have an established leadership, and in the activity map they are presented as a leopard skin, according to criminalistic criteria, in the sense that there are small spots in the national territory and each one of these spots represent a criminal organization that has a certain place, established clients, a modus operandi, and international links to sell drugs,”

explained Espinoza.

The leader said that the authorities know that no activity that involves the sale of drugs is isolated or autonomous. All organizations have a supplier, a structure, a price fixer and a work group that cause a lot of social damage.

The police chief made it clear that the numbers exhibit a social problem of the country, because every year, the courts of justice are condemning more than 1000 people for drug trafficking.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic, Emilia Navas, believes the regional context of the region should not be forgotten. She also explained that in less than a year the Public Prosecutor’s Office has managed to order preventive detention against 88 people linked to organized crime that goes beyond drugs.

Our country is not oblivious to the situation in the region and in the world, but it is proven that with a good job the prosecutors have a positive impact because the freedom of the leaders of these criminal groups is restricted,”

said Navas.
