The judicial operatives in the case of cementazo have already served more than 35 hours, an aspect that is physically demanding for the Public Ministry officials.
This forced the Attorney General, Emilia Navas, to take actions and distribute the procedural actions in different teams. According to the Public Ministry, all the officials know the case.
For example, at the hearing on precautionary measures – which has already accumulated more than 14 hours- three representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office have been replaced.
The judicial proceedings began on Saturday at dawn with the arrest of the Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños, in Atenas and the following raids to his properties.
At 6 a.m. the house of Mario Barrenechea, manager of the suspended BCR, was also raided in Santa Ana. He was arrested there.
Also, before noon, the offices of Banco de Costa Rica in San José and Curridabat were raided. There, Gilberth Barrantes, corporate manager of Credits and Risks of the BCR; Leonardo Acuña, current ai manager of the institution and assistant managers Andrés Víquez, Marvin Corrales and Rodrigo Ramírez were arrested.
Subsequently, the suspects were questioned. According to Juan Marcos Rivero, lawyer of Juan Carlos Bolaños, the interrogation of his client took more than four hours.
Bolaños is accused of embezzlement, influence peddling, slanderous complaint and simulation of crime.
On the other hand, Mario Barrenechea and five members of the credit committee of the BCR are pointed out for the possible crime of embezzlement.
