Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that the US government is prepared, if necessary, to conduct a military intervention in Venezuela.
The president has been crystal clear and incredibly consistent. A military action is possible. If necessary, that’s what the United States will do,”
told Pompeo to Fox Business the day after a failed military uprising in Venezuelan in support of Juan Guaidó.
We would prefer a peaceful transition of power, with the departure of Maduro and new elections, but the President (Trump) made it clear that at some point we will have to know how to make the decision,”
said the head of US diplomacy.
On Tuesday, US authorities increased pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, with warnings against the loyalist force to the socialist government, and urged officials in Caracas to defect and join Guaidó.
