Officers rescued a wounded crocodile that wandered near houses in the town of Daytonia de Sixaola.
The three-meter long animal was a danger for children in the area and it was the neighbors who gave the alert, frightened by the safety of their children and animals.
With the help of officials from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), the policemen immobilized the reptile in order to avoid harming it and later transferred it to an endangered species shelter operating in Puerto Viejo.
There, it received attention from a veterinarian.
The crocodile had wounds on one of its legs, apparently caused by a fishing line.
Once recovered from his injury, he will be released in a safe area, authorities said.
