According to the results of a survey conducted by UNESCO, young Latin American and Caribbean people want more inclusive education that prepares them for the challenges of the world today.
These results were announced last week at the Regional Meeting of Ministers of Education of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Marco Fallas, Deputy Minister of Public Education, explained that young people also expect education to consider the challenges of the world in terms of development, overcoming poverty and a different preparation for educators.
Fallas said that these requests serve as a point of reference for the central themes of the meeting, which is held to assess the progress of each country in achieving the goals of the 2030 agenda.
In 2015,17 new development goals were set during the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit. One of them has to do with quality education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The rest of the goals include:
-That everyone finishes elementary and high-school education.
-That all children have access to care in early childhood.
-Equal access to education for men and women.
-That everyone receives the competences to access teaching and entrepreneurship.
-That education is guaranteed for vulnerable groups and minorities.
-Quality educational infrastructures.
-Scholarships availability for the population.
-Properly qualified educational staff.
