Although President Luis Guillermo Solis and Labor Minister Carlos Alvarado insist on giving Costa Ricans an encouraging picture as far as job creation is concerned, the population don’t believe a single word they say.
Recently, unemployment has become Costa Ricans’ main concern, since national and international companies have closed their businesses, young people have difficulties to find well-paying jobs and the president continues to state “all is well”, despite the reality.
The most recent study by the National Institute of Statistics and Census Bureau said that unemployment currently affects 215,000 people, or 9.6% of the economically active population.
In contrast, Labor Minister Carlos Alvarado insists on saying the president’s plan to create 217,000 jobs in four years “has progressed”, but does not know how many jobs have been created or how many are needed to reach the goal.
