The case of alleged sexual harassment against a Costa Rican citizen within the Mission of Costa Rica to the Organization of American States has not reached the Presidency and it’s not likely to do so, according to Mauricio Herrera, Minister of Communications.
Herrera said that such situations are handled internally in each State agency, so it is entirely up to the Chancellery.
Last week, the press published the case of a young woman who filed a complaint for sexual harassment by a co-worker in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March.
However, according to the Foreign Service, they had not investigated the case because there was no formal complaint with the competent judicial authorities.
The woman claims she has been ignored all this time.
The Minister of the Presidency, Sergio Alfaro, also said that this situation should be resolved in the Chancellery.
Herrera highlighted that such issues are taken very seriously by the government, but also stressed the fact that each agency has to take care of their internal conflicts.
According to the hierarch of communication, each ministry or institution has formed a commission or an instance to handle such internal situations.
