The North Zone has its first solar park. It was inaugurated this Saturday as part of a project managed between the Cooperativa de Electrificación Rural de San Carlos (Coopelesca) and the National Consortium of Electrification Companies (Coneléctricas RL).
It is called Cooperative Solar Park and is located in Buenos Aires de Pocosol, about 4.5 kilometers from the community of Santa Rosa.
According to Coopelesca, the plan is to generate enough energy to supply five thousand families with the use of 19 thousand solar panels.
The investment, which exceeds 3.8 billion colones, was installed on a 12-hectare site and it is expected that in the dry season, when the water resource is scarce, guarantee the quality of the supply.
We are pleased as a consortium to have built the first solar park in San Carlos because in addition to bringing energy to a large number of families, this photovoltaic generation park is the largest in the country to produce five megawatts (MW) through 19,000 panels solar,”
said Erick Rojas, General Manager of Conelecicas.
Omar Miranda, general manager of Coopelesca, said that the project prevents more than 6,400 tons of Carbon Dioxide from reaching the environment and thus strengthen the quality of the service offered to members.
The project was located in this town for energy efficiency, good solar resource and for the conditions of the land, because it facilitates the production of photovoltaic energy.
The park will start its daily energy production at 6:00 am, with the first rays of the sun, but it will be between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, when it reaches its maximum level of production and in that hourly range, the more than five thousand beneficiary families, may say that the electricity they receive comes from the solar park.
